How to remove carpet stains

First rule for removing stains is – act immediately. The longer the stain sits it will be harder to remove it later.

Before cleaning remove anything that can create a stain. If you haven’t used a carpet cleaning product before on you carpet try it out on a small piece of carpet to make sure it won’t damage your carpet. After you tried it out and made sure it’s OK then you can proceed to next step.

Don’t rub the stain because this will only expand it and push it deeper into carpet fibers. Apply the carpet cleaner from outer edges of the stain to it’s center so it won’t expand. After you applied the cleaner pick up all the liquids (use a white clean cloth for this). If you feel that there’s too much moisture in the carpet after cleaning put a towel on that area and place something heavy on it so it can absorb the liquid.

After cleaning the carpet you can restore it’s smell by applying your own home made carpet freshner. Here’s a recipe:

  • 1 cup of grounded dried herbs (rosemary or lavender are great for this)
  • 1 spoon of minced clove
  • 1 spoon of cinnamon
  • 1 spoon of baking soda

Mix it all together and sprinkle it over the carpet. Leave it for a few minutes and then vacuum.
